Ex-Refinery Worker Reaped $20M In Kickback Scam, Suit Says

Law360, Houston (November 13, 2012, 8:35 PM EST) -- Houston Refining LP launched a suit in Texas state court Tuesday alleging a former employee and a Florida shipping broker concocted a $20 million criminal kickback scheme that caused the company to pay exorbitant prices to transport oil from overseas.

Houston Refining claims that Jonathan Barnes and Southport Maritime Inc. conspired to overcharge the company $50 million on shipping contracts awarded to the broker's clients Fossil Energy Resourced Ltd. and Camac International Ltd. in exchange for $20 million in payments to Barnes.
