Ex-NY Senate Leader's New Bribery Indictment Is Timely: Feds

Law360, New York (November 14, 2012, 1:41 PM EST) -- Former Republican New York state Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno's retrial on corruption charges should proceed because his new indictment is timely and can adequately support a bribery charge, federal prosecutors said on Tuesday. 

The U.S. government timely filed a new indictment less than six months after the Second Circuit remanded Bruno’s conviction for honest services fraud in 2009, meaning the new indictment is not barred by the statute of limitations, prosecutors said in a brief opposing Bruno’s bid to drop the new indictment....
