SEC Matches Last Year's Enforcement Peak With 734 Actions

Law360, New York (November 14, 2012, 4:11 PM EST) -- The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filed 734 enforcement actions during the fiscal year ending in September 2012, nearly matching last year's record number and continuing a ramped-up enforcement agenda for the newly reformed agency, the SEC said Wednesday.

The SEC won approximately $3 billion in penalties and disgorgement from a wide variety of enforcement actions in fiscal year 2012, including cases stemming from the financial crisis, insider trading cases, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act civil litigation and broker-dealer actions, the agency said in a preview to...
