Arbiter to Metrologic: Pay Royalties To Symbol Technology

Law360, New York (August 29, 2005, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A final ruling Monday brought to an end arbitration between rival technology companies over barcode technology patents, with Metrologic Instruments Inc. told to pay up to $12 million to Symbol Technologies Inc. for past royalties and interest.

Metrologic announced it would appeal the decision, which would require the payment based on sales of its new barcode scanning products, MS9520 Voyager and the MS6220 Pulsar. Metrologic intends to immediately seek a review of the decision in the federal court.
