Flood Of Tips Reveals Little About SEC Whistleblower Program

Law360, New York (November 15, 2012, 5:12 PM EST) -- The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission said Thursday that its new whistleblower office received over 3,000 tips in 2012, but attorneys caution it's too early to tell whether that number is a sign the Dodd-Frank Act program is actually effective.

The SEC report said the agency’s Office of the Whistleblower had received 3,001 tips, complaints and referrals from individuals in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. territory of Puerto Rico, as well as 49 foreign countries. About 18 percent of the tips...
