GOP Sens. Warn FTC Not To Stretch Antitrust Powers

Law360, New York (November 15, 2012, 6:42 PM EST) -- Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., and a group of Republican lawmakers warned the Federal Trade Commission in a letter Thursday against trying to expand its antitrust authority with "creative theories" that might end up discouraging innovation and growth in the technology sector.

The agency should focus on its mission of protecting consumers from harm rather than on pushing the boundaries of its powers, DeMint and nine other Republican senators told FTC Chairman Jon Leibowitz in an open letter.
