LegalZoom Says Rival Falsely Markets Services As Free

Law360, New York (November 20, 2012, 7:19 PM EST) -- Inc. announced Tuesday that it is suing rival legal document services company Inc. in California for false marketing and unfair competition over its use of the word “free” in advertising, saying access to its services can require fees or memberships.

In a California federal court complaint, the company says RocketLawyer’s advertisements violate not only established industry rules, but also breach U.S. Federal Trade Commission guidelines that impose clear limitations on use of the word "free" in advertising and marketing materials.
