Fla. Hospitals To Pay $10M In Medicare Overbilling Suit

Law360, New York (November 21, 2012, 8:34 PM EST) -- Morton Plant Mease Health Care Inc. and its affiliated hospitals in Florida have agreed to pay $10 million to resolve a whistleblower’s allegations that they overcharged the government for treating Medicare patients, the U.S. Department of Justice said Tuesday.

The company will pay about $10.2 million to resolve the government’s allegations that Morton Plant billed Medicare for certain interventional cardiac and vascular procedures as inpatient care between 2006 and 2008, when those services should have been billed as the less costly outpatient care or observational status....
