Philly Judge Affirms 3 Percent Raise For Firefighters

Law360, Philadelphia (November 21, 2012, 2:14 PM EST) -- A Philadelphia judge has denied a request by the city to overturn an arbitration award that granted 3 percent pay raises to the city’s unionized firefighters.

The city had sought to convince Philadelphia Common Pleas Court Judge Idee Fox that the award would put it $211 million over budget for five years and that the panel approving the award misunderstood its mandated rule. But in a one-page order issued Nov. 19, Judge Fox rejected the city’s petition and affirmed the award.
