Calif. House Democrats Warn FTC On Google Probe

Law360, New York (November 21, 2012, 8:02 PM EST) -- Two Democratic congresswomen from Silicon Valley warned the Federal Trade Commission in a letter last week against trying to expand the agency’s statutory antitrust authority as it continues its long-running probe of Google Inc.

Reps. Anna Eshoo and Zoe Lofgren told FTC Chairman Jon Leibowitz they were concerned by leaked reports that the agency was planning to go after Google using a creative interpretation of the FTC Act’s Section Five, which deals with deceptive practices rather than antitrust.
