Regulators Hammer Black Elk Over Offshore Safety Violations

Law360, Houston (November 21, 2012, 7:45 PM EST) -- Still reeling from a fatal fire at one of its oil platforms, Black Elk Energy Offshore Operations LLC on Wednesday was notified by federal regulators that the company must immediately improve safety conditions, or face a shutdown of its offshore operations.

In a letter to Black Elk CEO John Hoffman, the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement gave the company until Dec. 15 to submit a performance improvement plan and demanded that Black Elk explain how it has addressed some 300 documented safety violations the company...
