Senate Backs House In Overriding Bush Veto

Law360, New York (November 8, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- The U.S. Senate voted Thursday to join the House of Representatives in overriding a presidential veto of a $23 billion bill that will authorize money for Army Corps of Engineers projects, including ecosystem restoration in the Everglades and coastal protection for Louisiana.

The 79-14 vote easily surpassed the two-thirds majority needed to override a presidential veto, and came two days after the House of Representatives similarly voted 361-54 to override the veto. It is the first veto override of President Bush's presidency.
