JPMorgan Didn't Doom $1.85B Amaranth Deal, Court Says

Law360, New York (November 29, 2012, 6:54 PM EST) -- A New York state appeals court Thursday upheld the dismissal of a suit alleging JPMorgan Chase & Co. executives talked another company out of saving faltering hedge fund Amaranth Advisors LLC with a $1.85 billion bailout, saying their statements were not defamatory.

The appeals panel denied Amaranth’s bid to revive the dispute after determining that a statement on which the fund’s complaint relied made by JPMorgan executives over concerns about the impact of a potential bridge loan was premised on readily available information and substantially true....
