Intel Backs BlackBerry Maker In Patent Dispute

Law360 (September 2, 2005, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Chip maker Intel Corp. has thrown its support behind BlackBerry maker Research in Motion Ltd. in its patent battle against NTP Inc. over patent rights to the popular wireless messaging device.

In a brief filed with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, Intel is urging the court to reexamine the case because U.S. courts haven't properly enforced or defined cross-border patent law.

In its brief, Intel said U.S. Congress, not the courts, should set extraterritorial law.
