Microsoft Prevails In Patent Suit Over Windows Media Player

Law360 (September 12, 2005, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Microsoft Corp. was vindicated in patent litigation Thursday when the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit affirmed its Windows Media Player had not infringed a patent for media downloads.

The suit, brought by Network Commerce Inc., was appealed from U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington. In March 2003, judge Marsha J. Pechman granted Microsoft’s motion for summary judgment of non-infringement of Network’s file sharing patents.
