Law360, New York (December 13, 2012, 5:26 PM EST) -- The U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation on Wednesday grouped nine pending antitrust class actions in Alabama, North Carolina and Tennessee accusing Blue Cross Blue Shield Association of conspiring with its regional health plan providers to illegally carve geographic markets, inflating premiums for policyholders.
The new MDL, in the Northern District of Alabama, is intended to “ensure a streamlined resolution to the litigation” which since the filing of the motion to transfer the cases has grown to encompass additional tag-along lawsuits pending in 14 districts alleging BCBSA engaged in complex anti-competitive behavior, the panel said.
