EU OKs Apple's, Publishers' E-Book Price-Fixing Settlements

Law360, New York (December 13, 2012, 1:34 PM EST) -- The European Commission on Thursday accepted settlement agreements with Apple Inc. and four e-book publishers to resolve its suspicions that they colluded on e-book prices, and also revealed it is in settlement talks with Pearson PLC's Penguin publishing house.

The European Union's antitrust watchdog formalized the settlements with Apple, Hachette Livre SA, HarperCollins Publishing Inc., Simon & Schuster Inc. and Macmillan Publishers owner Verlagsgruppe Georg von Holtzbrinck. The commitments require the companies to end their current distribution agreements and get approval for their new arrangements....
