UnitedHealth Unit Escapes $424M Medicare Repayment

Law360, New York (December 14, 2012, 10:51 PM EST) -- A Medicare Advantage organization owned by UnitedHealth Group has escaped having to repay $424 million in overpayments estimated by an inspector general audit released Thursday, after convincing the OIG that the estimate is based on errors inherent in Medicare data, and it will instead work with regulators to determine the correct amount.

The Office of the Inspector General at the Department of Health and Human Services found that the company, PacifiCare, one of the largest providers of MA plans in the country, received $224,000 in overpayments...
