Mistrial Declared In POGO Gov't Worker Payment Case

Law360, Wilmington (December 18, 2012, 6:02 PM EST) -- A Washington federal judge on Monday declared a mistrial in a civil case alleging nonprofit group Project on Government Oversight illegally gave a government economist a cut from a whistleblower award earned in 1998 through a qui tam suit over oil royalties.

After three days of deliberations, one of the eight jurors would not return a guilty verdict against POGO and former U.S. Department of the Interior economist Robert A. Berman, prompting U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly to pull the plug on the trial, according to...
