Microsoft Service Agreement Focus Of European Inquiry

Law360, New York (December 18, 2012, 9:18 PM EST) -- Microsoft Corp. said Tuesday it is cooperating with an inquiry by European privacy regulators into the company’s recent changes to its service agreement that have sparked concerns the company might sell user data or otherwise violate consumers' privacy.

In October, Microsoft Corp. released a new service agreement that enhanced its ability to gather consumer information across several of its Web-based platforms, and after scrutiny, the company said it would revise the policy to clarify that it will not use that ability to serve targeted advertising....
