FTC Demands Consumer Info Practices From 9 Data Brokers

Law360, New York (December 18, 2012, 4:15 PM EST) -- The Federal Trade Commission on Tuesday said it has ordered nine data brokerage companies to provide information about how they collect and use consumers’ data so the agency can study privacy practices in the industry.

Earlier this year, the FTC told the data broker industry to improve the transparency of its practices. The agency said the new data it gathers from the companies will be used to make recommendations on whether, and how, the data broker industry could improve its privacy practices.
