Spain Fines Vodafone, Others €120M Over Abuse In Text Market

Law360, New York (December 20, 2012, 1:49 PM EST) -- Spain's antitrust regulator has slammed three mobile phone companies, including units of Vodafone Group PLC and Telefonica SA, with nearly €120 million ($159 million) in fines after finding they abused their dominance in the wholesale text messaging market, the watchdog said Thursday.

Spain's Comision Nacional de la Competencia hit Telefonica Moviles de Espana SAU, Vodafone Espana SAU and the Spanish unit of France Telecom SA with the penalties, determining that each company misused its dominant position to drive up the prices charged to virtual mobile operators...
