EU Poised To Launch Samsung Patent Antitrust Case

Law360, New York (December 20, 2012, 6:28 PM EST) -- The European Commission is on the verge of bringing a formal competition case against Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. over its efforts to use its standard essential patents to ban sales of some Apple Inc. products, the European Union's antitrust chief said Thursday.

EU Competition Commissioner Joaquin Almunia said he was "very happy" to hear that Samsung had decided to withdraw its injunction requests in patent litigation with Apple in Europe, but cautioned that the change didn't mean that Samsung hadn't already violated the bloc's competition rules....
