Ex-Ill. Gov. Wants High Court Review Of Fraud Conviction

Law360, New York (January 2, 2013, 5:47 PM EST) -- Imprisoned ex-Illinois Gov. George Ryan has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to hear an appeal of his honest services fraud conviction, saying the the Seventh Circuit’s refusal to order a retrial was inconsistent with the landmark high court decision in Skilling v. U.S.

Ryan told the court in a Dec. 26 petition for writ of certiorari that the Seventh Circuit had incorrectly equated favoritism for a benefactor with bribery, a ruling he says is inconsistent with the Skilling decision, which limited honest services convictions to cases...
