Internet Pirate Captain Handed 5-Year Sentence

Law360, Los Angeles (January 4, 2013, 5:38 PM EST) -- A Virginia federal judge on Thursday sentenced Jeramiah B. Perkins, the leader of purported Internet piracy syndicate IMAGiNE Group, to 60 months in prison for secretly recording and digitally reproducing thousands of copies of copyrighted films, including “Avatar” and “Iron Man 2.”

Thursday's order marks the latest, and longest, in a series of sentences handed down to IMAGiNE co-conspirators, and ends allegations that Perkins took the lead in organizing what the Motion Picture Association of America called the most prolific video piracy group operating from 2009...
