AG Sues Manufacturers, Retailers Over Lead Toys

Law360, New York (November 19, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- California’s attorney general has filed suit against 20 toy manufacturers and retailers, including Mattel Inc. and Wal-Mart Stores Inc., claiming they failed to notify customers that their toys contained lead or lead compounds in violation of California’s Proposition 65.

In a complaint filed Monday in the Superior Court of California in Alameda County, Attorney General Edmund G. Brown Jr. and Los Angeles City Attorney Rockard J. Delgadillo explained that Proposition 65 requires businesses to provide consumers with “clear and reasonable warning” before exposing them to chemicals...
