Texas Takes Water Dispute With NM To Supreme Court

Law360, New York (January 8, 2013, 7:27 PM EST) -- Texas escalated an ongoing water battle with New Mexico on Tuesday by filing a complaint with the U.S. Supreme Court alleging the neighboring state was diverting water from the Rio Grande meant for Texas.

Texas filed a motion asking the nation's high court to accept its complaint, in which it accuses New Mexico of breaching the 1938 Rio Grande Compact by intercepting water meant for Texas when it flows through New Mexico from the Elephant Butte Reservoir.
