BP Wants $3.4B Cut From Deepwater Liability Suit

Law360, Houston (January 11, 2013, 8:11 PM EST) -- BP PLC on Friday asked a Louisiana federal judge to pare potential liability of $3.4 billion from the federal government’s suit over the Deepwater Horizon disaster, arguing it should not be penalized for 810,000 barrels of oil it prevented from spilling into the Gulf of Mexico.

The oil and gas giant argued in a motion for partial summary judgment that the 810,000 barrels of oil were collected at the leaking Macondo wellhead before entering the Gulf of Mexico and should not be counted toward the maximum...
