SEC Settlements Hit 5-Year High In 2012, Report Says

Law360, New York (January 14, 2013, 5:18 PM EST) -- The U.S. Securities Exchange Commission reached more settlements in 2012 than in any year since 2007, and set a record high for the median value of settlements with individuals, according to a report released Monday.

The SEC struck 714 settlements in enforcement actions in 2012, a slight increase from 2011 and the most since 2007, according to the report by NERA Economic Consulting. That total included 537 settlements with individuals, the most since 2005, the report said.
