Drywall Safety Law Lets Chinese Cos. Off Easy, Attys Say

Law360, New York (January 15, 2013, 7:11 PM EST) -- Drywall safety legislation that President Barack Obama signed into law Monday allows foreign manufacturers, mostly from China, to largely skate on hundreds of millions of dollars in damage they've wreaked on the U.S. housing market since 2005, attorneys say.

The Drywall Safety Act of 2012, which sailed easily through both chambers of Congress, should lower the risk of dangerous chemicals seeping from imported building materials into American homes. But it does little to establish liability for foreign manufacturers and fails to ensure relief for property owners...
