Texas Grid Operator Should Up Capacity, Watchdog Says

Law360, Houston (January 15, 2013, 9:51 PM EST) -- A top industry watchdog wants Texas’ grid operator to consider developing additional electricity generation projects and outline its plans for dealing with anticipated shortages of capacity to avoid power outages, according to a letter recently received by the Electric Reliability Council of Texas.

Gerry Cauley, president of the North American Electric Reliability Corp., said in the Jan. 7 letter that the state's electric power reserve margin — projected by ERCOT to be 0.55 percent below its 13.75 percent threshold this summer — is expected to continue...
