Pfizer Settles Chantix Suit Slated For Bellwether Trial

Law360, New York (January 16, 2013, 5:40 PM EST) -- Pfizer Inc. reached an undisclosed settlement Tuesday with a Chantix user scheduled to be the first among more than 2,000 plaintiffs to go to trial in a massive multidistrict litigation alleging the company should have known the smoking cessation drug was linked to depression and suicidal behavior.

The bellwether trial was scheduled to begin Tuesday in Alabama federal court, but the two sides told U.S. District Judge Inge Prytz Johnson that the dispute between Pfizer and plaintiff Billy G. Bedsole Jr. has been amicably resolved, according...
