Inuit Group Can't Challenge Seal Ban, EU Court Adviser Says

Law360, New York (January 17, 2013, 3:44 PM EST) -- A Luxembourg court correctly determined that a Canadian Inuit organization lacked standing to bring a lawsuit over the European Union's prohibition on the import and sale of seal products, a top adviser to Europe's highest court said Thursday.

Advocate General Juliane Kokott told the European Court of Justice to dismiss the Inuit group's appeal seeking to revive its suit over the EU's 2009 ban on the commercial trade of seal products, which is a source of revenue for Inuit and other indigenous communities in Canada, Greenland...
