Judge Approves Settlement Of Furnace Suit

Law360, New York (November 27, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- A judge has given preliminary approval of a proposed class action lawsuit that alleged high-efficiency furnaces manufactured by Carrier Corp. failed prematurely because of inferior materials used to make a pivotal component.

The agreement, which was approved Nov. 20 by Judge Ronald B. Leighton of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington, calls for consumers of the product to receive an enhanced 20-year warranty or a reimbursement of costs if they have already sought repair of or replaced their furnace.
