Enviros Sour Over Bid To Ease NY Dairy Cow Herd Waste Regs

Law360, New York (January 24, 2013, 3:28 PM EST) -- Environmentalists on Thursday rejected Gov. Andrew Cuomo's proposal to exempt larger dairy herds from a wastewater discharge control rule, saying the change would add 25,000 cows to the state's herd and create a billion more pounds of waste per year that could pollute the water.

In August, the governor proposed raising the cap from 200 to 300 cows for small dairy farms, which are exempt from having to install wastewater control measures, at a summit geared toward solidifying New York's position as worldwide leader in yogurt...
