EPA Says Muddy Catskills Creek Needs More Protection

Law360, New York (January 24, 2013, 5:26 PM EST) -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency last week said existing pollution controls for the Lower Esopus Creek in New York’s Catskills region are inadequate to attain and maintain Clean Water Act water quality standards, and the area must be reclassified as an “impaired” waterway.

The agency said New York’s water quality standard for turbidity, or the cloudiness or haziness of the creek, is exceeded, making the classification mandatory.
