2 La. Subcontractors Indicted For Katrina Kickback Scheme

Law360, New York (January 25, 2013, 3:30 PM EST) -- A Louisiana federal grand jury on Thursday indicted two New Orleans-based subcontractors for engaging in a kickback scheme in connection with a lucrative debris-removal contract after Hurricane Katrina.

Anthony Penn, 51, and Kenneth Johnson, 52, were indicted on one count of conspiracy to defraud the United States for the alleged scheme, which involved Johnson allegedly paying Penn more than $220,000 in kickbacks for his efforts in acquiring the debris-removal subcontracts after the 2004 hurricane.
