Ex-CIA Officer Gets 2 1/2 Years For Naming Covert Agent

Law360, New York (January 25, 2013, 5:29 PM EST) -- A Virginia federal judge on Friday sentenced former CIA officer John Kiriakou to 2 1/2 years in prison for intentionally identifying a covert agent to a journalist investigating the government’s use of harsh interrogation techniques on terrorism suspects.

The 30-month sentence imposed by U.S. District Judge Leonie M. Brinkema was expected as part of Kiriakou’s Oct. 23 plea agreement. He admitted to giving the name of a CIA agent involved in the interrogations to a journalist, who then passed the information to a team of lawyers...
