Artist Infringed Copyrighted Photo Of Sex Pistols: Judge

Law360, New York (January 28, 2013, 10:07 PM EST) -- A California federal judge found Monday that an artist who appropriated an image by British photographer Dennis Morris of members of 1970s punk rock band Sex Pistols is liable for copyright infringement on two pieces of his artwork. 

U.S. District Judge Dolly Gee partly granted a summary judgment bid by Morris for artist Russell Young’s use of an iconic image of the band’s frontman, who went by the stage name Johnny Rotten, and its bassist Sid Vicious in two of his works that used that image....
