Ex-SEIU Boss Convicted Of Swiping Worker Dues

Law360, New York (January 29, 2013, 5:30 PM EST) -- A former head of the largest Service Employees International Union local in California was convicted Tuesday on charges that he misused home health care workers’ funds for personal expenses, including his 2006 Honolulu wedding.

A California federal jury convicted Tyrone Ricky Freeman, a former president of the SEIU Local 6434, finding him guilty on mail fraud and embezzlement charges, among other counts, after a 10-day trial, during which prosecutors said the theft netted Freeman "tens of thousands of dollars" between 2006 and 2008.
