Law360, Dallas (January 29, 2013, 7:30 PM EST) -- The Texas Railroad Commission on Tuesday voted to approve permits for a controversial coal mine, paving the way for Dos Republicas Coal Partnership to move ahead with plans to relaunch and expand operations at the now-dormant mine and export millions of tons of coal annually to Mexico.
In a 2-1 vote, the commission approved permits that will allow Dos Republicas to more than double the size of its Eagle Pass mine in Maverick County, located near the Mexican border in the southwest corner of the state, despite heated opposition from local officials and community groups.
