DOJ Criminal Chief Lanny Breuer To Step Down

Breuer will resign as chief of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Criminal Division on March 1, he announced Wednesday, closing a rocky four-year tenure in which he took the brunt of public criticism over the government’s failure to charge individuals tied to the financial crisis.

The move capped a week of swirling rumors over Breuer’s departure. He was confirmed by the Senate in April 2009, making him one of the longest-serving assistant attorneys general of the Criminal Division in history, the department said....
