Chevron Fined $1M Over Calif. Refinery Fire

Law360, New York (January 30, 2013, 6:09 PM EST) -- California state workplace safety officials on Wednesday slapped Chevron Corp. with 25 citations and proposed penalties of nearly $1 million for state safety standard violations stemming from an August fire at the company's refinery in Richmond, Calif.

California's Division of Occupational Safety & Health said 11 of the 25 violations were classified as "willful serious," because the agency found Chevron didn't take reasonable actions to eliminate refinery conditions that it knew posed hazards to employees and intentionally and knowingly failed to comply with state safety standards....
