Coudert's Claims Slashed In $9M Peabody Contract Row

Law360, New York (January 31, 2013, 8:10 PM EST) -- A New York federal judge on Wednesday tossed breach of contract claims from a suit brought by defunct law firm Coudert Brothers LLP seeking $9 million from Peabody Energy Corp. for lobbying work, but said so-called quasi-contract claims should go to trial.

U.S. District Judge Paul A. Engelmayer ruled that a disputed 1997 engagement agreement between Coudert and Peabody covered tax matters before the Internal Revenue Source and in federal court venues, not lobbying before Congress.
