DOJ Starts Strong In Tough AB InBev-Modelo Fight, Attys Say

Law360, New York (January 31, 2013, 9:53 PM EST) -- The U.S. Department of Justice laid out a strong case Thursday for why letting Anheuser-Busch InBev NV buy its relatively small U.S. rival Grupo Modelo SAB de CV would limit competition, but the suit is hardly an open-and-shut merger challenge, attorneys say.

The antitrust watchdog sued to block AB InBev's $20.1 billion bid for the half of Grupo Modelo it doesn't already own, warning the combination could cost consumers billions of dollars a year.
