Movie Studios Lose Bid For Funds Of Shuttered UK Website

Law360, New York (February 5, 2013, 2:04 PM EST) -- A U.K. high court ruled Tuesday that Hollywood movie studios aren't entitled to all money earned by operators of defunct indexing site Newzbin2, which provided users access to copyrighted films, saying such a remedy would likely stifle future innovation.

Justice Guy Newey denied a bid by Motion Picture Association of America Inc. members Twentieth Century Fox Film Corp., Universal City Studios Productions LLLP, Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc., Paramount Pictures Corp., Disney Enterprises Inc. and Columbia Pictures Industries Inc. for proprietary injunctions against Newzbin2's operators.  The court...
