Pa. High Court Asked To Jump Into Stalled Philly, Union Talks

Law360, New York (February 6, 2013, 8:03 PM EST) -- The city of Philadelphia has petitioned the Pennsylvania Supreme Court Tuesday to exercise extraordinary jurisdiction in its suit seeking court approval to implement a contract with its largest municipal workers’ union after four years of negotiations deadlocked last week.

The city filed suit Feb. 1 in the Court of Common Pleas seeking to unilaterally impose what Philadelphia Mayor Michael A. Nutter’s administration described as its best and final offer to the District Council 33 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees labor union....
