5 Charged For Importing Hazardous Knock-Off Toys

Law360, New York (February 6, 2013, 6:33 PM EST) -- Five Queens, N.Y., residents and their companies were charged on Wednesday with importing from China counterfeit children's toys featuring Mickey Mouse, SpongeBob SquarePants and other popular characters that contained excessive amounts of lead.

In a 24-count indictment unsealed in Brooklyn, the men are accused of trafficking hazardous toys in violation of the Consumer Product Safety Act, smuggling and money laundering.
