Olive Oil Co. Sued Over '100% Pure' Claims

By David McAfee (February 6, 2013, 6:27 PM EST) -- Kangadis Food Inc. was hit with a lawsuit in New York federal court Wednesday by the North American Olive Oil Association accusing the company — which operates under the name Gourmet Factory — of falsely labeling its Capatriti brand product as pure olive oil.

The lawsuit, brought by the trade association of marketers, packagers and importers of olive oil in the U.S. pursuant to the Lanham Act, raises allegations that Gourmet Factory intentionally and unlawfully used deceptive misbranding of edible oil products to portray its olive residue oil, a fat from leftover olive skins and pits, as "100% pure olive oil."...
