US Pays Maine Yankee $82M In Nuclear Fuel Storage Row

Law360, New York (February 7, 2013, 2:24 PM EST) -- Maine officials said Thursday that the federal government has paid Maine Yankee Atomic Power Co. $81.7 million in damages over allegations the government breached an agreement over the disposal of spent nuclear fuel, abandoning efforts to fight an award upheld by the Federal Circuit in May.

The reimbursement is the latest development in a long-running dispute between Maine Yankee and the federal government over the disposal of fuel from its plant in Wiscasset, Maine, which was decommissioned in 1998.
